Designs For Smiles
Teaching others and bringing people together through fashion and crafts
A Passion Project created by four high school students to help our community through handmade Fashion Designs and Crafts
About Us
Designs for Smiles is a Passion Project created by four high school students to bring our community together through fashion designs and various different types of crafts. Our goal is to open a program at our local library to teach kids/senior citizens how they can make bookmarks for example, using recyclables such as cardboard and fabrics. We want to teach children and senior citizens creative ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle their clothing into something fun and new. We are going to help out at our local hospital during the holiday season, by donating pillows to the children, volunteering our time at a local retirement center, and teach the people in retirement fun ways to make crafts and designs.
Our First Meeting
Today was our First Day! We up cycled old clothes and cardboard to make bookmarks in the library! We are going to do a program at our local libraries and senior citizen homes to teach children ages 5-8 and senior citizens how to make sustainable bookmarks using cardboard and an arrangement of fabrics.
Laurel Circle Retirement Home
On December 22nd, 2022, Designs for Smiles went to Laurel Circle Retirement Home and did a program with over 20 elderly people there. We all made stockings, wreaths, ornaments, bracelets, and more. Designs for Smiles wanted to give back to our community through hand made fashion designs, and also to spread some holiday cheer to others. We are so grateful to have this wonderful opportunity to do a program with the Laurel Circle. The people who came to our program were so happy and excited to make these ornaments and stockings for their kids and grandkids for this upcoming Holiday Season!

Valentine's Day Program at The Laurel Circle Retirement Home
On February 12th, 2023, Designs for Smiles went to Laurel Circle Retirement Home and did a program with the senior citizens there, to do a program for Valentine's Day. We made frames, and we put inspirational and motivating quotes inside of them. We utilized red and white paint, and we decorated our frames. The senior citizens were so excited and happy to make these frames. One of the senior citizens, who is 97 years old, told us a sweet and fascinating story of how her anniversary is on Valentines Day, which was very memorable to all of us. She expressed how happy she was that we came and did this program with her since Valentines Day is a very important Holiday for her. Check out the pictures below!
